Not especially long ago, Don and Nancy Elmore retired from their hectic careers and moved to Arroyo Grande on the beautiful Central Coast of California. After a couple leisurely years of travel, gardening, wine tasting, and generally, catching up on activities they previously had little time for, Don and Nancy eventually gravitated toward an interest they mutually shared – buying and selling antiques. That interest resulted in the birth of their business, Antiques From Memory Lane, and which continues to grow and thrive.
These days, along with tending their charming store in downtown San Luis Obispo, California, Don and Nancy continue their travels in pursuit of the antique. Don particularly enjoys searching out the hard-to-find, and highly sought after such as rare Meissen Arts & Crafts tile, or an alabaster and marble Jean d’Arc bust from the 1800s. Don also focuses on purchasing furniture and does a limited amount of touch up on some of his finds but generally looks for pieces in excellent condition.
Nancy has a passion for antique textiles, linens, lace, buttons, apparel, bags and jewelry. She loves to give old textiles new life and her specialty is to collect the prettiest remnants of days gone by and see what they inspire her to create. In the shop and at various shows, Nancy’s beautiful handbags, pillows and sachets, to name of few of those inspirations, can be found, seen and touched. Some are intended for daily use while others are meant to sit quietly, adorning your home.
These excellent collections can be enjoyed at Don and Nancy’s shop, Antiques From Memory Lane, which occupies a large space inside the very beautiful Antique Center, 1239 Monterey Street, San Luis Obispo, phone # (805) 541-4040. The Center is one of the oldest stores in the county and is owned and operated by George Martines. Hours are: Monday – Saturday, 10:00 to 5:00, and Sunday, 11:00 to 4:00
